Defining a movie experience

I am no longer a movie buff. Over the weekend I watched Postman Always Rings Twice, Taxi Driver, Streetcar Called Desire, Chariots of Fire and The Graduate. And then I switched to television and watched KANK..and I watched it right upto its ridiculous ending..and I didnt switch channels in the breaks..and I related to a lot of situations in the movie..and kind of forgot how Taxi Driver ended..

So the question that popped up was...what defines a movie experience? When does bad cinema capture one's imagination? Does a chilling movie like Taxi Driver not stay with you because you do not relate to it? And by the same logic, does a rank bad movie like KANK grip me enough to make me sit through it because i can identify with the characters?

I dont know. I guess I should stick to No Entry in the future.

Shuv: Stick to No Entry. But 5 movies over the weekend? You are a patient man.

as soon as i started reading the post i knew the "no entry" reference was inevitable!

watch ONE movie a weekend and you'll do just fine!

KANK???? *shudder shudder*

I don't know if it is fortunate or unfortunate but I can relate to KANK too.

And it's not about Shahrukh or Rani as actors. It's the role that they are playing....the people they become...

KANK was sort of an Indian rendition of a movie called "Falling in Love" by Meryl Steep and Robert De Niro. Needless to say, this movie portrays the emotions of the characters far more beatifully than KANK (sans Amitabh's idiocy).

Answer to your question "what defines a movie experience" is "state of mind". I have been watching 5 movies over a weekend for almost a year now and sometimes i like a particular kind or genre of movies and sometimes i hate them.

kaushik: its better than television..and the weather doesnt permit stepping out.

sayantani: i knew u were going to pick that one up. hehe..

anon: havent seen that one..generally stay away from 'lovey dovey' flicks..loved 'bridges of madisson county' though..

vikas: spot on.

Anon: Are u from Germany. A skinhead who surfs the net anon. Stalks people. Usually u r the ones who create some havoc someday. U know what I mean??

I have noticed a trend married people of our age seem to love to identify with KANK or whatever bullshit the gay has made. Its so uncool to not have a troubled marriage.

I have not watched "Falling in Love". Usually keep away from those pseudo romantic craps. The falling rain is more romantic than those moview. But I will not stay away from it like I did for KANK.

kaushik: what does KANK have to do with being a skinhead and wreaking havoc? And where did you invent the gay element from in KANK? The KANK I saw had all straight characters in it with the exception of the director, maybe!

koushik: do u have a problem with gays? we are also humans u know?

anon: all normal characters was it? are u also talking about the 2 father son relationships portrayed in the movie?

Anon: I dont think u got the skinhead thing. Have u watched Sliver. I watched it for Sharon Stone but then I am talking about the guy.

Usually these type of individuals do things in secrecy. They dont reveal themselves (bcoz they dont have the balls.. its a man quote but incase you are a women please rephrase appropriately).

And then oneday they wreck havoc. Didnt read the story of the South Korean who wrecked havoc in this American University.

As for KANK and Gay. I am not talking about the movie but talking about SRK & KJo. He loves being called KJo. Oh My God! Oh My God!

Yucks!

Shuv: I cant help it. I am sorry.

Shuv: I said straight..not normal. Hardly anyone in this world can be labeled normal anymore. Besides, I think you overlooked my snide remark about Amitabh's idiocy in this film. In a country where this kind of relationship is openly professed by celebrity father/son (feroz/fardeen khan), who gives a crap what a mere movie depicts.

Kaushik: From what I gather you haven't even seen the movie. Yet you are on a rampage to compare it to Sliver and the Korean Guy who massacred in Virginia Tech. I still don't get what all this have to do with KANK.

Anon: I am amused how blatanly you choose to miss the point. Knowing you I think it is tactical. I havent suffered to see KANK.

But I was not comparing it with Sliver or the Korean guy. For all those who missed the point I was talking about the penchant for people to be anon.

I really hope RIP is back. Atleast he had a name.

dear shuv,
we tend to like anything that resembles either OUR lives or OUR fantasies.
thats why a broker might just as well be thrilled on a documentary on stock marketing.

i loved KANK.
may be simply because the story had something immensely significant to every ones life.

dear shuv,
have u ever seen two beggars begging from each other? i know it sounds stupid. But isnt it absolutely the case in every single marriage?
two partners constantly begging each other for love and..both their bowls are empty!
their is bound to be frustration, anxiety ,depression...
because you r asking for the impossible!
thats why i loved KANK.

ahem..what can i say rip..apart from the fact that for the first time there was a spelling mistake in your comment.
